Welcome to this Professional Learning Space designed for literacy coaches, classroom teachers, and interventionists. Please join my literacy friends in studying effective literacy practices. Armed with strong theories (Clay, Vygotsky, and Goldenberg, for example) and strong research (Dorn, Snow, and Allington, to name a few) my teaching friends and I explore literacy as it happens in model classrooms. We collect video and images of lessons to share. Our philosophy is consistent with reflective practice. As Catherine Snow said of usable teacher professional learning: “We argue that a crucial criterion for usability is contribution to the ongoing differentiation of teachers’ understanding – a process that will occur through conversations with other teachers and with researchers throughout their teaching careers (2005, p. 11). Whether you are a teacher in training or a veteran in search of new insights in literacy theory and research, there’s always something to think about and try. I welcome you to our Learning Space!
